Object type:artifact
- Provenance
- Ernst Fleckenstein began his brewing career with his brother Gottfried in Faribault, MN, in 1856 with their brewery, Fleckenstein Brothers. In 1860, Ernst left Fleckenstein Brothers to start his own brewery due to disputes with Gottfried; this brewery was named Ernst Fleckstein. When Ernst died in 1901, his four sons took over the business, changing the name again to Ernst Fleckenstein Brewing Company. The company managed to survive Prohibition due to their production of non-alcoholic beverages, and the day that Prohibition ended, they were ready with their new beer, Fleck’s. Ernst Fleckenstein Brewing Company went bankrupt in 1964, as they were unable to compete with larger companies in the brewing industry. Between 1860 and 1964, Ernst Fleckenstein Brewing Company produced a wide range of memorabilia, including signs, salt and pepper shakers, tape measures, egg timers, and more. This paper poster for Fleck’s Beer was produced by The Meyercord Company of Chicago, IL, likely in the late 1930s.
