- The Phoenix Brewery was located in Bay City, Michigan from 1898-1917 and after Prohibition from 1933-1951. This calendar from 1950 featured the “Gay Philosopher” character relaxing in his pipe and reading his newspaper. Do you think he might be enjoying his retirement? Herb enjoyed all of his Breweriana but this was one of his favorites. He probably thought of his 31 years of retirement and how much he enjoyed it.
